Infant Hearing Program
The Ontario Infant Hearing Program (IHP) is a Government of Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services program.
What is The Ontario Infant Hearing Program?
The goal of the Infant Hearing Program (IHP) is to monitor children who are at risk of permanent hearing loss in early childhood and to provide hearing services for those identified with a permanent hearing loss. The IHP is for children from birth to 6 years of age. All newborns in Ontario are offered a free hearing screening in the hospital or community clinic. If they do NOT pass a Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 screening, they are automatically referred to an IHP audiologist for a diagnostic hearing assessment. This test is more detailed than the screening and will confirm if the baby has a permanent hearing loss. An IHP audiologist has specialized training from the Ministry to perform diagnostic testing on infants and young children. Sound Advice Hearing Clinic is a designated IHP site for Toronto region.

Doctor Of Audiology, Audiologist, Clinic Owner
In 2006, Gina was selected and trained by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services Infant Hearing Program (IHP) to become a designated IHP audiologist. In 2008, she helped establish and head the first audiology clinic at ErinoakKids – the lead agency servicing the Central West Infant Hearing Program. In 2012, Gina opened Sound Advice Hearing Clinic in North York, ON, where she presently acts as the director and chief audiologist. She provides the full range of hearing services for infants, children, and adults. Gina’s qualifications and experiences allow her to service the “difficult to test” population, such as those with complex and special needs.
Hearing Test Fees
There is no charge for routine hearing tests for children under the Infant Hearing Program (IHP). The IHP provides services to children from birth to 6 years of age with permanent hearing loss, or for those who are at risk for permanent hearing loss.
Hearing Aid Hats
It is natural for infants and toddlers to play with their ears and pull off their hearing aids. Hearing aid hats provide an effective solution to this issue. They are made of breathable mesh fabric on the sides with lightweight cotton or cotton blend material through the middle. Please call our clinic if you would like to order a product at (416) 398-5050.
